Up the coast putting together a travel feature just before the long weekend. Spent a couple of magic nights camerd right next to the beach. Now I snapped this shot one evening, OK photo, nothing to get excited about but hang on a cotton picking minute…

WTF is that shadow down the bottom? Statue of Liberty, RATM album cover, stalker…?

Haven’t shot a custom in a while, thanks to a large expanse of time on the road.

Met Jas this morning to shoot his awesome (truly awesome) shorty Defender. This thing is a weapon. Had a top morning out, thanks a heap Jas and good luck this weekend mate!

Good luck to everyone else competing this weekend, something tells me this year is going to be a cracker. Catch you all down there.

Hey folks. Thanks to everyone who has emailed asking if I’m still alive, well yep I am, just don’t come too close or your senses may tell you otherwise (oh and Steve, even if I was dead, no, you couldn’t have my job…).

Have just returned home from 4 weeks in the Simpson desert. Epic trip in more ways than one. If you have never seen the desert…GO NOW! What’s happening out there may not happen again for many, many years. You have all read about the flooding but the amount of water out there is nothing short of utterly bloody amazing. Again, if you have ANY interest in Australia’s wild places, scrape together a couple of weeks leave and get inland, you won’t be sorry.

Home now for 1 week then I fly out for the Kimberley again for a 3 day shoot. Looking forward to this one….well, it is the Kimberley, why wouldn’t I?

OK the below shot was something of a surprise. It was getting late in the day, I was lagging behind the crew when I spotted this scene. Jumped out and without much thought fired off an 8 shot sequence handheld…this is the result. I like it for what it is and recon it has a place on my office wall. Oh and this is the Hay River Track, just south of Madigans Camp 16 (Blaze Tree).

How Big Is Yours…?

Recently had a shoot at Robson bros 4WD and mounted above the workshop entrance Rob has an image I took at a comp last year. The enlargement is roughly life size, perhaps slightly larger.

To date this is the biggest enlargement of an image I have taken that I’ve seen. Looks cool in the flesh, so to speak (of course photos don’t have flesh, that would be just plain weird…fun but weird).

Well, been home a week or so now and life has pretty much returned to normal. Photo shoots looming (two this week), deadlines pending, articles to be written, copy to be checked, invoices to chase and no matter what I do, I just can’t stop myself looking out the window hoping to see a remote gorge and a river teeming with barra….

Epic!

7500km’s, 29 days…Wyndham to Oombulgurri via the tablelands track. First vehicles through in a very, very long time.

Met the most down to earth and genuine people, travelled through country the brochures don’t show, camped in sacred places, ate traditional foods, caught barramundi, got bogged (several times)…and captured the whole shebang on film.

First DVD should be out around July…for those in the know, I recon this one will be an absolute CRACKER!

Thanks to Ronnie, Tommy Gun, and Uncle Kev, TJM (and the staff who put in an all nighter to get me on the road in time to meet the film crew), Cooper Tyres, Allied Rims (the top end boys thought the Phantoms were “deadly”), Red Centa and a big thanks to LeeThal for going above and beyond the call of mateship to get Shorty ready.

Six weeks break then we do it all again, this time we head for the north Simpson Desert…damn I freaking love this job!

If you need to ask, there is no point in explaining.

TT 2010 was a cracker. As a virgin shooter for the event it was a tad intimidating to say the least. However I managed to emerge with only a couple of close calls, didn’t get hit with any flying beer cans, avoided getting into a fight, didn’t get close to a streaker, was not shouted at by any spectators for getting in the way and managed to get my hire car back without a dent…bring on 2011.

Well my first “solo” DVD is now out. Feedback has been overwhelmingly positive…which is a real weight off as I hate the smell of rotten tomatoes!

DVD now available Aus wide in the usual locations.

Have You Ever Seen the Rain….

I have no idea where this is, suffice to say it’s the foothills of the mountain range that hosts Lake Issyk-Köl.

An out of the ordinary weather pattern brought cold winds, then cold rain then finally, at our chosen campsite at 3,500m on the shore of Lake Issyk-Köl (Kyrgyzstan), even colder snow.

This is a few photos that I have stuck together with sticky tape and Clag glue….(I was going to use Blu Tack to give the mountains some depth but sadly things didn’t line-up)
